Electrical safety basics Do not work with exposed conductors carrying 50 volts or more. Make sure that electrical equipment is properly connected, grounded and in good working order. Extension cords cannot be used as permanent wiring and must be removed after temporary use for an activity or event. Working with electricity can be dangerous.
Engineers, electricians, and other professionals work directly with electricity, including on overhead lines, cable harnesses, and circuit assemblies. Others, such as office workers and salespeople, work with electricity indirectly and may also be exposed to electrical hazards.
